To mark the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration and the celebration of the 2020 Europe Day, the Europe Direct Information CentreÌýÌýat the 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ and the European CommissionÌýÌýhave produced a book entitledÌýDe la déclaration du 9 mai 1950 vers l’Union européenneÌý(‘From the Declaration of 9 May 1950 to the European Union’), published by the Publications Office of the European Union.
This original book with a pressrun of 1000 copies, which will be of interest to people from all walks of life, opens with a preface by Madam Yuriko Backes, European Commission representative in Luxembourg, before exploring the historical significance of the Schuman Declaration, its echoes in the present day, Ìýand also Robert Schuman’s links with Luxembourg and the role played by the country and its key personalities in the European integration process. A separate section presents the Robert Schuman House in Clausen, managed by the University since 2016, where the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) is planning to host a variety of outstanding academic and public events.The Publications Office of the European Union is currently disseminating the French version and preparing English and German versions for wider circulation among the 27 Member States of the European Union.
